Just had this suite delivered.  It is in near perfect original condition.  Just beautiful.  Designed in the 60's it has been beautifully made and has obviously had a very careful owner.  I love the tuck under chairs which creates such a clean finish that it takes up little visual space.

After having to take time out I was finally able to get back to work.  This lovely lightform suite was first on the list, I just couldn't resist it any longer.

Parker Knoll Style Armchairs.

Headed off to Hamilton last week to pick up this super cute pair of little fireside armchairs.  Once I got them back here I let them sit for a couple of days contemplating what to do... restore the wood, change the covers, etc etc.  In the end after spending time with them I decided they were so super cute as they were.

The set is all done and looks fantastic.  Now that it's done what I'm really enjoying is the subtle play of all the angles working together.  It's only now that I have the chairs set round the table that the nuances of this suite become mesmerizing . I always thought of this as such a straight line piece but now all the angles come to play.

I decided to revisit this pair, as I was totally in love but hating the area of fill on one of the arms which was way to dark.  I decided to remove it and inspect the underlying damage to see if that was less distracting than the dark fill.  In the end though I decided to color-match some new fill.  It had done exactly as I hope.   It's doesn't take away the fact that there is damage there but it does soften it on the eye. 

Backhouse Coffee Table

The large 1.5m Backhouse table is one of my favorite NZ MC coffee tables and the same version as the one I have in my personal collection. I'm sitting at it as I type.  The proportions of this table make it perfect as real work horse, not just a very pretty face.  There are others that I drool over a touch more as far as pure aesthetics go, like my Jon Jansen cloud table, but for looks and all round sturdy usability this one takes the prize everytime.  Form and function, it's what its all about. 

Fler Dining Suite

The suite is looking fantastic.  I love the shape of these chairs, I think they are probably my favorite dining chair of Flers.  They have a simpler fabric on now, and that allows the delicate shaping of the ladder backs to take the limelight. Lovin' it.

70's rockers

I popped off the legs and stripped them back by hand.  The curves were lovely to work with and look fantastic with their rich tones once again on full display.  I decided to stay with the lighter tones for the fabric to contrast against the wood.

The frame came up beautifully and with some new clothes this little beauty is ready to go.  I changed out a broken spring and gave the mechanism some light grease.  I decided on a pale olive tight weave fabric to contrast against the rich mahogany tones.

Every time I get to work with one one of these (which is not very often) it's a good week.  I love this design from Don furniture.  I still have my one and nothing I have found since has impressed me enough to move them on.  Can't wait to get started.

Airest rocket chairs

This pair are felling a lot better, with the frames sanded, oiled and waxed.  They have all new webbing, and covers.  I decided to go back to one of my favorite thick weave fabrics Solarweave Rust. The burnt orange tone sets off the Mahogany frames beautifully.

I know a few of you were disappointed not to grab the Fler suite the other day.  One of my suites from last year has come back on the market, a fab low-line suite probably by Don Furniture.  A lovely couple bought it but after having it in their home for a while they have decided that it just isn't going to work in their living space. Check it out, they certainly have priced it to sell.

After a break over Christmas I got back to work with this fab longline suite from Fler.  I decided to stick with the original base colour and love the James Dunlop fabric.  All new clothes and a little TLC have really brought this set back to life.
