The new seat frame has been installed and all the springs reset. I decided to go with a fab green material from Warwick. It's called Ardo Citron and really pops against the rich tones of the Mahogany. It all slipped back together beautifully and once again looks as it should.

The last few days have been spent delicately sanding back all the wood work. Someone had previously taken to this little beauty with a very heavy hand and what looked to be a 30 grit sanding disk on a grinder. After they had finished decimating the beautiful finish of the once smooth mahogany they had managed to almost completely hide any trace of the intricate grain under a thick layer of industrial stained varnish.
So now it is onto the next part. The seat framing had been equally decimated but this time it was our old friend borer. The frame has been too badly infested (even if it is dead) to keep it. The spring system needs to be removed, a new wood frame constructed and the whole things reassembled.
It's going to have been a lot of work for this little girl but let's face it, she's worth every second.
I just started work on a lovely little Airest daybed. She needs the full works with a full strip back of all the upholstery and woodwork. The spring base for the seat has been attacked by borer so that will have to be completely rebuilt with new wood. The mahogany trim is all in good condition but needs all the old coating cleaned off and resealed.
